The Samurai were a nearly mythical warrior caste that played a significant role in Japanese history. During this time, the Emperor and Shogun lacked the ability to control the numerous Daimyos (feudal lords), leading to near-constant conflict among the various factions. It was in these tumultuous times that the Samurai code, known as Bushido, became more clearly defined, and their standards of combat improved.

The introduction of the musket in 1543 was seen by the Samurai not as a threat, but as an opportunity. These warriors continued to train with a wide array of weapons, including the iconic katana, as well as the yari (spear), yumi (bow), and no-dachi (greatsword).
